Delta State Government has been commended as the only state in Nigeria with four Universities.
This commendation was made yesterday in Asaba NUJ Press centre by The Member Representing the Oshimili South State Constituency in the Delta State House of Assembly, Hon Bridget Anyafulu during the Journalist Handout.
Hon. Bridget emphasized on the need to encourage reading culture in the children by reintroducing inter school quiz in her Constituency.
The Legislator, said she has visited schools and had crucial meetings with teachers to encourage them on their efforts in shaping the characters of the students. She further discloses her efforts to introduce food farming in Primary and Secondary schools in her Constituency, where the students do the practical planting and harvesting of their farm produce.
According to the Legislator, besides farming, skill acquisition is also paramount confirming that some technical schools in her Constituency can now manufacture and creatively build and with the help of the state government in providing row materials or financial support, the students will do better.
Meanwhile, as the Lawmaker, who heads the House Committee on Housing, Women Affairs, Humanitarian Services and Girl Child Empowerment, She has given attention to healthcare of the women and farmers because of their key roles in the society.
She noted that these categories of her constituents hardly had time to take care of their health which prompted her decision to register them in the free Contributory Health Scheme
Hon Anyafulu expressed displeasure at the increase of immigrant beggars to Asaba from across the Niger, stating that she has taken steps to check the situation and further called for the intervention of the State Ministry of Women Affairs to evacuate the beggars from the Ogbeogonogo market, Ibusa junction and other locations in Asaba
