OBOREVWORI HAILS IGBOS FOR CONTRIBUTIONS TO SOCIOECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT OF DELTA

The Igbo community in Delta State has been commended for helping to fast track the socioeconomic growth and development of the state.

Governor Sheriff Oborevwori gave the commendation in Asaba on Sunday at the 10th anniversary celebration of Ndigbo Cultural Forum, Asaba.

The Governor, who was represented by his Chief of Staff, Hon Prince Johnson Erijo, noted that the Igbos, known for their enterprise, resourcefulness and creativity, had over the years made significant investments which had complemented the efforts of government in developing the state.

Oborevwori said government would not take the ingenuity of the Igbos for granted, promising to continue to partner with them and other non indigenes, in the governance process, to advance the state to enviable heights.

He thanked the Igbo community for their support for him before, during and after the 2023 election and urged them to remain supportive of his administration’s MORE agenda designed to bring about meaningful development, create opportunities for all, ensure realistic reforms, as well as enhance peace and security in the state 

The Governor said he would continue to run an inclusive government that would give as many people as possible, including non indigenes, the opportunity to contribute to the development of the state, pointing out that a good number of Igbos were currently serving in different capacities in the Government of Delta State 

Oborevwori noted that at ten, the Ndigbo Cultural Forum, Asaba ,had made a significant progress in bringing indigenes of the Eastern states resident in the state capital together to forge a common front for the purpose of fostering unity and cohesion, thinking home and impacting on their host community and the state at large.

Earlier, the Chairman of the Forum, Chief Chinedu Obodo, commended the immediate past Governor of Delta State, Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa, for the massive road infrastructure in the state, especially the state capital, which helped business to grow, noting that the Igbos were better for it.

Chief Obodo commended Governor Sheriff Oborevwori for his MORE agenda aimed at advancing the state beyond where he met it and particularly thanked him for creating opportunities for non indigenes, Igbos in particular, to serve in government.

He pledged the continued support of the Igbo community in Asaba for the Oborevwori administration.

The event featured fund raising for the Forum’s secretariat project and presentation of awards to Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, former Governor Ifeanyi Okowa, represented by a one-time Secretary to the State Government, Chief Patrick Ukah, Chief Edwin Uzor,Hon.Bridget Anyanfulu among others
