Ohwovoriole Commends Justices Of Peace For Selfless Service

The Delta State Attorney -General and Commissioner for Justice, Mr. Ekemejero Ohwovoriole, SAN, has applauded the Justices of Peace (JP) in the State for their contributions and selfless service to the society.

Ohwovoriole made the commendation in his office in Asaba when the Justices of Peace in the State led by Sir (Chief) L S Odjoji, JP paid him a courtesy visit.

In response to a number of requests made by the Justices of Peace, Ohwovoriole stated that he would study their requests in line with the handbook of the Justices of Peace and in accordance with the existing law in the State to see how he could facilitate the actualisation of some of their requests.

He noted that the requests made by the Justices of Peace were not intended for their individual gains but to give back to the people, adding that their requests were not out of place as they were meant to benefit the people.

Earlier, the leader of the delegation, Sir (Chief) L. S Odjoji, JP said that they were in the Attorney-General’s office to congratulate him on his appointment as Honourable Attorney -General and Commissioner for Justice and to also introduce their members to him .

He expressed optimism that the Attorney -General would bring critical reforms in the judicial system that would serve Delta and facilitate enthronement of peace in the State.

Sir Odjoji enumerated the requests of the association to include allotment of slots in the appointment of members of the Customary Court and creating Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) committee in the 25 local government areas to give their members power to adjudicate on civil cases .

He also appealed to the State Governor to provide a bus to each of the Senatorial Districts for ease of the official duties of members of Justices of Peace, stressing that government should make it mandatory for JPs to register with their various chapters .

Meanwhile, the Federation of Female Lawyers Association of Nigeria (FIDA) has paid familiarization visit to the Attorney-General.

In his remarks, the Attorney -General and Commissioner for Justice, Mr. Ekemejero Ohwovoriole, pledged to sustain the Ministry’s existing robost relationship with the FIDA.

The leader of FIDA delegation, Mrs. Stella Maris Emejulu told the Attorney -General that the association had been working in collaboration with Ministry of Justice in virtually all its activities.

She said that it was a good thing to familiarize the association with the Attorney-General just as she informed him that FIDA has been enjoying cordial relationship with his predecessors and solicited his cooperation and support.
